As Predicted, The new sony Classics Will get Smashed
I would not brag were it not Monday morning and it is the only real factor keeping me from walking before a bus, so: The ultimate bit of Movieline's Sundance 2012 Putting in a bid-War puzzle has fallen into position, with director James Ponsoldt's boozehound relationship drama Smashed visiting the estimable The new sony Pictures Classics. Five-for-five! High five? Smashed is all of the the year's forecasted Sundance darlings to formally look for a distribution deal, using the Surrogate, Bachelorette, Arbitrage and Red-colored Lights all spoken for within the month-plus because the festival came and went. Furthermore, its showcase for Mary Elizabeth Winstead like a youthful teacher fighting the vicissitudes of alcoholism may yet convince fall consistent with SPC's recent underdog honours tradition - the one which found Melissa Leo (Frozen River) and Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) being released recently-summer time platform releases to contend with the mainstream faves in the Academy awards. (A pr release delivered to Movieline HQ didn't specify a release date.) "The role [...] asks Winstead to operate the entire gamut, from game good-time girl which stimulates teacher to spend-shocked morning-after casualty and adamant survivor," authored Hollywood Reporter critic Todd McCarthy from Park City.
